Slow start, strong finish

A slow start with 3 early defeats denied us any realistic chance of topping the division and getting involved in the end of season shake up but we gave it a good shot finishing the season positively with 4 wins and thoughts of what might have been.

Some real positives; great to see some new faces in the side with Abdul, Sajid, Khizar, Abid, Anthony and Matt all making telling contributions at various stages.

6 wins out of 10 with a great run chase to win away at champions Himbleton worth remembering but the highlight for me was yesterday's win at Alvechurch which showed what a strong side we're capable of being with a well rounded display with bat and ball and still room for people to contribute more.

End of Season Awards

Bowler of the Season

Some impressive performances throughout, Sajid has been constitant and dependable opening the bowling and not had much luck.

Iain's provided some useful variation and control with his economical off spin again lacking the luck to bring deserved wickets.

Also a mention to Abid and Matt who joined us late in the season but made their mark with some very impressive spells.

The award for bowler of the season goes to Anthony Jones who came in a few games into the season and quickly grew in confidence to take the most wickets at an impressive average, well bowled Anthony.

Batsman off the Season

Highlights with the bat include not outs of 90 from Zoheeb in a great run chase at Himbleton and 145 from Matt in a demolition of Astwood Bank.

Cameos along the way from the likes of Glenn, Sajid and a few others helped out with much needed runs.

Khizar's all guns blazing approach has paid off on more than one occasion no more so than with a rapid fire 67 off 36 balls at Alvechurch which was an awesome display of brutal big hitting.

Our standout batsman who has contributed runs in near enough every game and done so in style, with over 300 runs the batsmen of the year for the 2nd team is Abdul Azam.

Player's Player of the Season

As players you were clear who you're player of the season was and I'm sure in recognition of the runs and the contribution in the field Abdul Azam was voted deserved winner.

Thank you to all 22 players who turned out for the 2s this season and to those who helped out behind the scenes, on the pitch and made my job as skipper that little bit easier.

Next season should be one the 2nd XI approach with real optimism as I believe the foundations of a very strong team are there if we all come back together in 2021.
